The sky is thick and black, and at that evening, weak light penetrated the cloudy sky, thus making the day becomes shady and gloomy. Occasionally, one or more thunder claps are roaring at the grey heaven, forcing people to take refuge in their house for the fear of it, but ironically, they stared at it through their house window. They are searching for an omen; when the rainstorm will stop. Adam, one of the residents who stuck in their house, is looking the sky aimlessly through his room window, hoping the rainstorm will end quickly, so he can go out and plays his beloved sport, which is soccer, with his friends.
Abruptly, his wishfull thought is disturbed by the knocking sound of his room door. He did not have to think long who is the owner of the disturbing hand- when a small girlish voice ranged behind it.
“Abang!, Have you seen Anjang?
“Anjang? … no.”
“ Do you know where is he?”
“ I don’t know”
“ are you sure?”
“Yes. I’m dead sure”
“have you seen him outside?”
“I said I don’t know! Stop disturbing me! Go play somewhere else.”
He has reached his nerve now, and he felt a sudden spark of anger prickled below his heart. His sister is annoying him now and of course, she always makes life difficult for him , and together with frustration that makes the anger become worse.
The small voice stopped for while after the stern voice, until it resumes.
“Abang, can you …”
He had enough. He turned himself to the door, and straining his eyes at the tiny stream of light that illuminating through the small opening beneath the door. A shadow is standing still beneath it. He stormed through his messy and gloomy room toward the wooden door and grasped the shiny knob and opened the door.
A small figure, more likely representing a little girl, appeared in Adam’s sight and she is standing in front oh him. Form the look of her, he can guessed that his small sister, Sarah , just returned from her primary school, may be before the rain for by the dry look of her. She is still wearing school uniform that is white and dark blue; white for the upper part of baju kurung and dark blue for the lower part of it. It is a norm at Adam’s place.
“What do you want now...? Let him go where ever he wants. He will come home when he wants to.”
“but he doesn’t turn up for a week”
That sentence hits him like a ringing bell.
Adam knows that he likes to stray out form his house to do his unfinished business, and he sometimes takes days before he return home, and often, he acts like nothing had happened. But, a week is slightly unusual, even for a strong and proud male like him. Anything can happen to him.
“Hm…, Sarah, why don’t you look for him in the house?”
Slowly, both of the siblings, walked down the stair and look for missing Anjang. They search every creek and corner of their house-under the chair, behind sofa, beneath tables- and yet, nothing has been founded. For the first time after couple of minutes of Sarah’s “interruption”, he felt slightly sorry for his small sister for using stern voice on her. She is right after all.
